Looking back (July 9, 2021): And this was the answer to Joy’s question. We walked along the river. It felt very risky to go walk along the river; in some places the sidewalks were narrow…it required leaving the “safe” zone that we had established for ourselves. But it was such a blessing to see something other than buildings. And to see the wide sky. And to see the birds and smell the watery air. These were days of great gratitude for the years of work that have gone into cleaning up the Anacostia River and making a walking path for those of us who live her to enjoy.
