The rose series continues…

Another in the rose series for this Saturday, a not so common peach beauty. A big day here at the old casa, the wall out front is finally getting repaired and we are actually going somewhere without the dog. We'll see how that goes. But for now our #pandemicpractice will continue to be #reframingwithoutforgetting. #capitolhillwalks continue as #springisspringing around here.

Nature can still surprise me…

And after 15 months of wandering the neighborhood in the early morning, there are still surprises to be seen. How many times have I passed this tree and never noticed the delicate flowers? We just won't even try to answer that question. And it isn't lonely...there are 4 or 5 of them within a block of my home. I think it is called a black locust if Google has any authority in such matters. But the white lacy wisteria-like flowers are everywhere in my vision this Monday. What sight surprises you this Monday? #pandemicpractice #everymorningiseastermorning #springisspringing #capitolhillwalks

Red and white…

Every morning in spring as I step out the back door to begin my walk, this is the vision that greets me...white roses cascading over the back fence from a neighbor's yard. This morning, this beauty takes me back to Mother's days so many years ago, when as we got dressed for church, my own mother would pin a red rose to my dress and a white to her own. I was older before I could ask the question about why mine was red and hers white. It may even have been only on that Mother's day when I was baptized for the first time and confirmed into the Presbyterian…

The dew is on the rose…

This morning's walk was awash in roses. Seems early, but grateful for the beauty everywhere in this season of goodbyes. I never used to understand it when my teachers got a little dewy-eyed around this time of year, but now I do. We are in the process of saying goodbye to yet a second graduating class who had to dig deeper than many thought possible to stay focused and to complete the work before them. So yes, I'm a little weepy this morning, but the roses help a bit. Roses to you all.

Build your own metaphor…

For sure, it isn't the best of pictures. But it is an important one. If you can see the tiny rose bush...just getting started. I've had it pulled out of the garden twice. I personally dug out the root. But here it is. Again. And I'm sure it will be beautiful. Again. I'll let you build the metaphor you need most today from this story and I will keep mine to myself. Honoring beauty in a season of change…

Unlike most days, today my wandering had a destination. Since the weather predicts heavy wind today, the tulips on my walk will take a beating, I'm sure, and I just hadn't paused to honor their beauty. We don't have many houses here on the Hill that have space to do justice to tulip growing, but this one does. It seems to me that the tulips are the one flower that has held steady to their bloom cycle this year, so many other things have been early that it seems all the beauty is rushing in at once. Other things are changing too...there are people walking to a destination rather than…

Emancipation day…

Transformation before my very eyes. That's how it happens...you look and look, and all seemes the same. Then a little push from the inside and a light but insistent breeze and poof! The new green of change becomes visible. Well, that is Friday for you. And yes there is a small political statement buried in all this green and pink. Emancipation day it is.

Our beloved Gracie, the first of our beagle fur children, used to do a trick where she balanced a treat on her nose to the command, "Focus, focus, focus." Emancipation day…

Focus?

Our beloved Gracie, the first of our beagle fur children, used to do a trick where she balanced a treat on her nose to the command, "Focus, focus, focus." She was only released to eat the delicious morsel one of us spoke the command, "Eat it up!" There were so many reasons that she was known as "Gracie, the wonder dog." Last year, at this time in #pandemiclife I needed the camera see for me. I could sense the world around me but I couldn't focus at all. The camera focused for me. This morning, I find myself complaining that the camera simply can't capture all that I can see.…

Have a great Wednesday.
